Welcome Assembly
April 01, 2010

The school commencement for the new session 2010-2011 began on April 01, 2010 with a warm welcome and lively assembly which began with a ‘Welcome Poem’ in which all those who had gone to the next class were congratulated and the others were guided to get inspiration and motivation from them. The rejuvenated and enthusiastic students were greeted while the new comers were extended a special welcome to make them feel comfortable and at home.

World Health Day
April 7, 2010

World Health Day was celebrated in the school. Messages such as ‘We are the world’, and ‘Every problem is as much ours as it is of the rest of the world’ were conveyed to the students. Children were made aware of this fact so that they become a part of solution to various problems faced by humanity. All these important days are observed and celebrated in the school. The Activity Coordinator, Dr. Kiran Prabhakar introduced the topic and Ms. Garima Walia brought home the history and the campaign of WHO on World Health Day to the students with an informative talk in the assembly.

The main objective to celebrate this day is to create awareness about a specific health theme and highlight it as priority area of concern for WHO. Besides discussing different themes taken up as World Health Day namely ‘Health Work Force Crisis (2006)’; International Health Security (2007); World Health and Climatic Change (2008) and Safety Health facilities (2009); the theme of 2010 ‘Urbanization and its effects on health’ was discussed. She said that the campaign 1000 cities, 1000 lives will open up streets and public places to promote physical and mental health facilities. It was further emphasized that it was not a one day’s event; we all have to contribute for the health of our city to save ourselves from health problems and ailment hazards.

The Principal Mr. Samson Masih addressing the students asked them to observe and inculcate healthy habits to lead a healthy life. He also said that keeping the city neat and clean should be the prime concern of every resident.

‘Health Plus” organized a quiz competition to spread awareness regarding various health issues among the students.

Talent Hunt
April 07, 2010

A ‘Talent Hunt’ was organized for 3 – 5 and 6 – 12 class groups respectively. The new members of the DPS family, Pinjore showcased their talent by presenting melodious songs, dances, thoughts, speeches and humorous jokes etc. While some of them were a little shy and just gave their introduction, others were quite comfortable and stole the audience’s heart, getting loud applause as they performed. Such activities help the authorities to identify talent so that it can be honed to perfection. These students will get ample opportunities to chisel and showcase their talent during the session and in the years to come.

Pre-Nursery to Class 2

A Talent Hunt competition was also conducted for the students of Pre-Nursery to Class 2. They performed dances, sang songs or narrated a story. Children were judged on the basis of their stage presence, confidence, preparation and presentation. Talented children have been short-listed and their names noted to prepare them for functions and programmes.

A Novel Innovative and Effective method of Teaching Time Management

Teachers of our school presented a skit to teach the students importance of time management in their life, especially the daily routine. The skit written by the coordinator, Ms. Kiran Prabhakar was tastefully presented by Mr. Yograj Kaith, Ms. Rekha Sharma, Mr. Anthony Masih, Ms. Meenakshi Chaudhary, Mr. Balbir Singh and Ms. Savita Singh. The message it contained was that wrong habits can spoil the morning and the day of not only one person but for the whole family and on the other hand good habits could do wonders and bring happiness, organization and peace in the family This skit which was very well grasped appreciated by the students.

The Principal Mr. Samson Masih congratulated the teachers for this new method of edutainment and asked the children to learn and implement the lesson learnt, in their lives.

World Heritage Day
April 17, 2010

As the World Heritage Day was on Sunday, April 18, 2010, so the celebration of this day of international importance was planned on April 17, a day before in the school. The importance and history of this day was brought home to the students in a very interesting talk studded with historical facts by Mrs. Anjana Rana. The students were asked to pledge to save the monuments, rich cultural values and respect the valuable inheritance.

World Earth Day
April 22, 2010

Everyday is ‘Earth Day’ if you care enough for mother earth. To imbibe this feeling of responsibility in every child, ‘Earth Day’ was celebrated on April 22, 2010 in the school. Students of class 10 presented a skit ‘Lets Save Earth’ depicting various types of pollutions and the remedial measures which need to be adopted by all of us. Ms. Taranjeet Kaur also enlightened the students about importance and significance of the ‘Earth Day’ through her talk in the assembly. The teachers took up meaningful projects on 3 R’s (Reduce, Recycle and Reuse) in the classrooms. Through these activities, children not only learnt about their planet but also learnt how to become a part of the ‘Save Earth’ drive.

Pre-Nursery to Class Prep were taken Around The Campus to show them the importance of a clean and green environment. The benefits of this were discussed in the classroom and children were taught how they could help in preventing pollution e.g. Do not litter, protect plants, switch off lights and fans etc.

Children of classes 1 and 2 helped their teachers in decorating the class display windows. The display windows were based on the earth themes like ‘Save Our Oceans’, ‘Save Our Jungles’, ‘Save Our Atmosphere’ And ‘Greener Energy Solutions’. They discussed the need to preserve the atmosphere and how pollution could harm each of the different eco spheres. Children also suggested various ways in which they could help in preventing pollution e.g. by recycling old things.

Memory Marathon Carnival 201
April 23 & 24, 2010

St. Xavier’s School Panchkula organized ‘Memory Marathon Carnival 2010 on April 23 & 24, 2010 in their school. Our team bagged the Third Position among ten schools of the tricity who participated in this competition. The ten disciplines under which the competition was conducted were Mere Galli Muhale Ki Khabar (Pre-Prepared Documentary), News Reading, On the Spot Announced Event – Flip Flop, Movie Spoof, Sports Round (Knee Boxing), On the Spot Announced Event- Channel Surfing, Video Game, Poetry, Pyramid – Clue Based Quiz, Collage Round. The students who formed the DPS Pinjore team were Jasneel Grover, Hardique Dasore, Shreya Dasore, Shivam Sharma, Jaisal Gulati, Saurabh Tiwari, Pranav Naidu, Shivani Sharma, Harmeet Kaur and Saransh Chaudhary

Millennium Dream Team Intellectual Marathon Contest
April 27 – 29, 2010

The Times of India organized Millennium Dream Team Intellectual Marathon Contest in which 30 schools from tricity participated. DPS Pinjore got Fifth Position in this competition. Workshops & Seminars

Workshop for Science Teachers

Mr. Deepak Sharma attended a workshop - “Developing Inquiring Minds for Learning Science” for teachers teaching General Science to classes VI to VIII, organized by the Delhi Public School Society, New Delhi, which was held at DPS Dwarka from April 13 – 16, 2010.

Workshop for Biology Teachers

Mrs. Garima Walia attended a workshop “Conceptual Understanding of Biology at Senior Secondary Level” organized by Delhi Public School Society , New Delhi, which was held at HRD Centre, DPS Dwarka, New Delhi from April 27 – 30, 2010.

Seminar
Pioneer Group conducted a seminar for the students of class 9 and 10 in the school. The benefits of surfing internet for clarification of doubts in mathematics were discussed by the resource person Mr. L. K. Gupta

Inter House Competitions

Robot Making Competition

The Robotics Lab has been set up in this session, which is fully operational and the students are trying their hand at learning Robot – making with the help of the programming software. Making mock-robots was fun and equally interesting for the participants of the four houses who used their creativity, innovative ideas and came up with wonderful Mock-Robots which have been displayed in the display window.

Intra Class Competitions

Intra class Slogan Writing Competition, Intra class Poster Making competition and Intra class Collage Making competitions were organized for the students of classes 3 to 10. The best groups were given first, second and third position respectively.

Sports

Athletes in various categories took the fitness test to be selected in the state team. The results of the Distt. Level selection procedures are awaited.

Health Plus Programme
• General checkup for students was done.
• On the occasion of World Health Day, a competition was organized in which students made a presentation on the topic ‘URBAN HEALTH – How to keep your city clean’ and for the appreciation, students were given the certificates for participation. Lectures were also given in different classes on the same topic.
• The first aid lectures were given to the students in their activity classes. They were taught different life saving techniques.
• The routine dental check up was also done for the students of classes Pre-Nursery to VI.
