CELEBRATIONS
August being the month of festivals was a month of celebrations. The following festivals fell during this month, which were celebrated with festive fervour.

Raksha Bandhan, August 05, 2009
This festival strengthens the bonds between brothers and sisters. The children made beautiful Rakhis which were displayed on the board alongwith their affectionate messages. The significance and importance of this cultural festival was highlighted in an assembly talk given by Ms. Mausami Vaidya, who narrated the historical incident of ‘Rakhi Ki Laaj’,telling how Badshah Humanyun came to the rescue of Rani Karmavati of Mewar to honour this pious bond.

Janamashtami Celebrations, August 14, 2009
Shri. Krishana is perhaps the most worshipped and loved God in all parts of the country. His birthday was celebrated with a religious fervour in the school. An idol of Laddu Gopal was placed in a beautifully decorated jhoola. Ms. Smriti Mehta gave a lecture in the assembly enlightening the students about the facts of Krishna’s birth, his eternal charm and the spiritual enrichment given to his devotees.

Independence Day, August 15, 2009
The 63rd Iindependence Day was celebrated with a patriotic zeal and fervour by Dipsites of Pinjore. The ceremony commenced with the flag hoisting by the Principal Mr. Samson Masih, who addressed the children and wished them on this National Festival. In his message he told the children that they were the privileged class who should do their utmost to help the ‘have nots’ come up in life. This would show true patriotism. He also conveyed to the students the importance of sincerity and honesty towards themselves, their parents, school, friends, country and eventually the entire world.

A Declamation contest was organized to mark the Independence Day. The participants from classes 3 to 5 expressed their views on ‘Truth and Honesty’ and ‘Patriotism’. Their confidence and feeling for the country left the audience spell bound. Young girls put up a dance on ‘Mera Desh Rangeela’ and ‘Jai Ho’. “Vande Matrum” was sung by Karna Verma and Franky Chauhan. The celebrations were concluded with the Tree Plantation in the school campus by parents, teachers and the students.

INTER HOUSE COMPETITION
G.K. Quiz
The students will be taking their Half Yearly exams in the month of September. To help them revise and improve their general knowledge an inter house G.K. Quiz was organized for group 3-5 on August 21, 2009. The result of the quiz is as follows:

First Position – Jhelum House
Second Position – Yamuna House
Third Position – Ganga House

Mathematics Quiz
While the G.K. Quiz helped classes 3-5 students revise their general knowledge for the competition. On August 31, 2009 classes 6-9 group participated in the Mathematics Quiz organized, with the objective of revision and clearing their mathematical concepts. The result of the competition is as follows:

Second Position – Jhelum House
Third Position – Yamuna House

ART COMPETITION
Graphic Art Presentation
A Graphic Art Computer presentation on the topic ‘Different Artists and Art-forms’ of the world was organized for the students of classes 8 -12. It was an open competition in which 10 groups comprising of 2 to 3 students, took part. It was for the first time that such a competition was held for them but they came up with wonderful presentations with appropriate music to enhance the effect. The result of the competition is as follows:

Slogan Writing Competition
An Intra class Slogan Writing Competition was held to commemorate the 63rd Independence Day of the Nation. Students wrote heartfelt slogans proving their solidarity and dedication for the Nation.

Fanta Fiesta Group Singing Competition, August 24, 2009
DPS Pinjore won the second position in the Group Singing Competition organized by the Fanta Fiesta on August 24, 2009 held at Tagore Theatre, Chandigarh. Twenty six Schools from the Tricity took part in this event which was a part of the week long Fanta Fiesta Celebrations. Our team comprised of nine students:

They were accompanied by our music teachers, Mr. Anoop Massey, Mr. Mukti Nath and Mr.Yogesh Verma. The students were awarded the 1st runners up Trophy. This team was felicitated by the organizers on August 27, 2009- the concluding day of the revelry - Fanta Fiesta.

Fancy Dress Competition
Our tiny tots from classes Pre-Nursery to Prep took part in a fancy dress competition held on August 26, 2009 in the school premises. Children impressed everyone with their attires and the messages depicted by them. Swine-flu awareness seemed to be one of the favourite topics for the competition. Do’s and don’ts to save one self from the flu were highlighted by many students besides playing the famous characters from history and mythology. The vegetable vendor, Fairy, Priest (Pujari) were some other popular enactments which were applauded by the audience. The results of the competition are as follows:

August like July was another busy month for our sportsmen who participated at various levels in different games. The tally of this month’s achievements is as follows:

Skating Championship at Karnal on August 24-25, 2009
Shivam Singh, a student of class XII, from DPS Pinjore reached the National Level in Skating Championship by winning one Gold & two Bronze medals at the State level. He was the only skater to have bagged the highest numbers of medals at the state level and the only participant from Panchkula to represent at the State level.

Badminton Championship at Karnal on August 18-20, 2009
Saccit Gupta, a student of class VII, bagged the Gold medal at state level and has been selected for the National level.

Cricket Tournament (U-13) - Our team was placed second in the tournament organized by St. Xavier’s School-Panchkula on August 07-09, 2009 at Barwala Stadium.

Chairman’s Soccer Cup (U-16) - The Chairman Soccer Cup was organized by St. Xavier’s School-Panchkula on August 20-21, 2009 at Tau Devi Lal Stadium-Panchkula, where our team won the Championship for the second consecutive year.

• A Football Tournament was organized by Holy Child School – Morni, where our team bagged the second position.
• Seven players from our school have been selected for the Haryana State Basketball team.

Nation’s Vikas Jyoti Award for Mr. Samson Masih, Principal, DPS-Pinjore
Economic Growth Society of India honoured Mr. Samson Masih, Principal Delhi Public School-Pinjore in recognition of his contribution for the progress of the Nation and worldwide on the occasion of International seminar on ‘Individual Achievement’ for economic and social development on July 26, 2009 at New Delhi.

Health Plus Programme
• The doctors besides doing the general check-up were busy handling the problem of preventing the spread of Swine Flu in the school. Lectures for all the classes were conducted to spread awareness amongst students. They were told as to what is Swine Flu, how does it spread, signs – symptoms of the flu, precaution to be taken, diagnostic tests and drugs available for the cure of this disease.
• A thorough screening for all the students was done and those with cough and cold were isolated.
• The dentist treated the dental problems detected during the month.
